SweepyMac · last updated 9 September 2026
SweepyMac has no accounts and sends no telemetry. Scans run on your Mac and their results stay on it.
What the app stores
Everything SweepyMac keeps, it keeps on your Mac:
- Settings — your options for each module, in the app's own preferences.
- Licence state — the key, when it was last checked, and a device fingerprint derived from the Mac's hardware identifier, in the Keychain and in ~/Library/Application Support/SweepyMac. The fingerprint is a hash used to cap a key to two Macs; it is not an advertising identifier, and during the preview it is never sent anywhere.
- Malware definitions — the downloaded definitions file, its signature and its version number, cached in the same folder.
Scan results — the paths, names and sizes a scan turns up — are held only while the app is open, and are never uploaded.
What the app does not do
- No accounts, and no sign-in.
- No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDKs.
- No file names, paths or scan results leave your Mac — there is no server for them to go to.
- No invented threats and no fake urgency to sell you a fix.
The one network request
SweepyMac fetches its malware definitions — a JSON file and its detached signature — from a static host. The request carries no personal data and no identifier of you or your Mac, and the file is verified against a public key built into the app before a single rule is used. A signature that does not verify means the definitions already on your Mac stay in place.
When SweepyMac goes on sale, activating a licence will contact the licensing service with your key and that device fingerprint, and nothing else. During the preview, the licence check runs entirely on your Mac.
Full Disk Access
Real cleaning has to see real files, and caches, logs and leftovers sit outside an app's sandbox — so SweepyMac asks for Full Disk Access. It is used for the scans you start, and for nothing else. Refusing it is fine: the app still works, it just sees less and macOS asks about individual folders as it goes.
Purchases
Nothing is for sale yet. When it is, payment will be handled by a payment provider, which passes on only what is needed to issue and deliver a licence — an email address to send it to. Card details never reach us.
Deleting your data
Drag the app to the Trash and delete ~/Library/Application Support/SweepyMac; that is everything it stored. Anything SweepyMac moved to your Trash stays there, restorable, until you empty it yourself.
