FocusLens · last updated 9 September 2026

FocusLens makes no network requests. Everything it records stays on your Mac, and it never records what is in your windows.

What the app records

For every stretch you spend in an app, FocusLens stores one row on your Mac:

  • The app's name and bundle identifier — Xcode, com.apple.dt.Xcode.
  • The category it was counted as, whether from the built-in classifier or your own override.
  • When the session started, when it ended, and how long it lasted.

From those rows it derives the daily summaries, focus scores, switch counts and goal progress you see in the app. It also stores your settings and the goals you create.

What the app never records

  • Window titles, page titles and URLs — FocusLens knows you were in a browser, not what you were reading.
  • Document and file names.
  • Keystrokes, clipboard contents, and anything you type.
  • Screenshots or any other image of your screen.
  • Your name, your email address, or any identifier of you or your Mac.

What the app does not do

  • No accounts, and no sign-in.
  • No network connections. The app does not contact any server, including ours.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs.
  • Nothing is shared with anyone, because nothing leaves your Mac.

Where it is kept

In the app's own storage on your Mac, and in a container shared between the app and its widget so the widget can draw today's score without running the app. Both are local, both are covered by whatever backup and encryption you already use for your Mac, and neither is synced anywhere by FocusLens.

Notifications

If you turn on the score and goal alerts, macOS asks for permission and the notifications are composed and scheduled on your Mac. Nothing about them is sent anywhere, and the app works with the permission refused — you just get no alerts.

Asking for the preview

While FocusLens is in preview, getting a build means emailing us, so we end up holding your email address in an inbox. It is used to send you the build and to answer you, it is not added to a list, and it is not passed to anyone. Ask and it is deleted.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, children included.

Deleting your data

Settings has a Clear Data button that empties everything the app has recorded, after asking. Removing the app removes the rest, including the shared container the widget reads.
